FAQ

Surgery Related

1) Do I need to ensure fasting of my pet, whom has a surgery tomorrow?

Yes, fasting is essential to ensure pet do not vomit when anesthetized. This is to prevent aspiration pneumonia. Pet should be fasted 12 hours before surgery.

2) What is the ideal age to sterilize my cat or dog?

The general recommendation is 6 months onwards.

3) What is pre-anesthetic blood screening?

A pre-anesthetic blood screening usually includes a complete blood count (CBC) and a liver & kidney profile. This will provide an indication of the suitability of your pet’s health prior to surgery.

4) Is Intravenous (IV) fluids essential for surgery?

IV fluids administration is recommended to help maintain blood pressure during surgery and IV access allows quick administration of drugs should a critical/emergency situation arise.
